In Galatians 4:8–20, Paul pauses his theological argument to reveal the heart of a pastor who deeply loves his people. He grieves that the Galatians, who once tasted the freedom of God's grace, are turning back to a form of spiritual slavery rooted in performance and religious effort. Paul reminds them that they are known by God and that true freedom is found not in earning God's approval, but in resting in Christ. His willingness to speak hard truths comes from a genuine love that desires their good, not their admiration. Like a parent laboring for a child, Paul longs to see Christ fully formed in them because that is where lasting freedom is found.
